our Company Fun Run

April 18,2010- The first Bayan Fun Run

Our company had a first ever Fun Run, as the running community already boom now, Fun Run as our Employee and Family day. We usually have competitions in badminton, basketball, bowling and other famous sport, but now we have a fun run, of course I’m excited, hehe. As my colleague knew I’m running (nah, just started running)and Im Miss Congeniality (hahaha, makapal lang face ko) they got me as a Team Coordinator for our group. Its kinda pressure since as our EA told me that our group was always a champion in every event like badminton, bowling and others. Wow, I thought coordinating this one is easy but I’m wrong. Lots of convincing power, encouraging them and gives some idea that they will enjoy running, hehe. They usually told me, “ano ka ba, hindi ko kayang tumakbo”, “ay ayaw ko ng mag run, ang aga aga naman”,and other lots of reklamo, but they can play badminton and other sports *sigh*. Hmmmm, I need to force a total of 20 person to compete for 3K individual (5 person), 5K individual(5 person) and a 10 person (8male + 2female) for a Team competition.

Pressure, stressful and excited hehehe. It’s hard to complete the list because only few run, many are their first time to run, so instead on the competition they just register for a Fun Run/walkathon for 3K and 5K. After forcing and encouraging them to run, I complete the list, hehehe.

We had this in our mailbox, to excite the first time runner, hehehe. Of course, I'm always excited for this. :)

On the day come, all are excited at the starting line, I would tell them," If maiiwan kayo walang free breakfast" hehehe, of course it’s only a joke, as some of the runner are my Bosses. I run alongside with Cathy (a first time runner, and recruited to compete for our team, and she is a good badminton player) I just told them to have fun; anyways this is just a Fun Run talaga, so the run started. The runners from the other team run so fast, as in they run as an elite runner, whoahh ang bilis.

(the route in our Diliman office, 5K runner had to complete the 2 loops)

(me waiting for our runners, serious mode, hehehe)

( the starting line)

(the 3K runners, Congrats to my teammates Jherrielyn and Marita, won the 1st and 2nd runner up, respectively for 3K women individual)

(other team won on the 5K individual, both men and women)

( our team was aChampion for winning on the Team Competition, yehey!)

(I bring my sister and pamangkin, they run on 3K Fun Run)

a real Adventure Run

--already late on posting this, as I'm busy with work and lots of boggling thoughts with my work, family and personal matter, hehehe--

April 17, 2010 (6:00am) at Wawa Dam, Montalban - 5K trail run

I registered for Merrell Adventure Run, the first trail run that I registered thought I run on ATKOM last March 28, which I joined in the last minute. I’m excited on this trail run as I saw the route in the organizer’s multiply site, this is what I want, an adventure, so I go to Merrell-Trinoma to register and got my slot. I already convinced my officemate to join since he lived in Montalban but back-out due to personal reasons, ohhh…Im alone again. Good thing, Madz and Pedz will also joined the race. And thanks to Madz, for allowing me to join in their company, meeting her cousins Mina and Irish, Thanks Girl!
Night before the race, I can’t sleep as I need to be in Philcoa at 2;30am, leaving our house at 1:30am to be on time. I’m already at Philcoa as early as 2:30am to share a shuttle service with Madz, courtesy of one of the media-Agatep, they are all kind and grateful, thanks to them also. We are early at the race, the organizer still preparing, this is the first time I’m early, since most of the time I’m late, hehe. As the race started at 6:00am, the entire 15 Km are off to go. As we are registered to 5K we went to the starting line next to them, it’s a good feeling that I’m on the first lane at the starting point. As I joined on the 5K race, I knew that this is the first time I will get a finisher medal, already expecting it, since their cut off time was 1 hour and 10 mins and my road race for 5K was 48 mins then the first trail that I joined (ATKOM) for 10K, I finished it for 2 hours which I’m late for 10 mins and just walk the 80% of the trail and took pictures. But to my surprise, I did not get the finisher medal, sigh. For the first km. going up already to the mountain, we got all the dust, and the dogs are all behinds us, (I felt that they are ready to bite me anytime). The people are smiling, and encouraging all the runners. As we go to the mountain after the one and only water station, we can only run/walk on a single file. On going up, the cause of clogging was some of the runners took pictures, stop on their place, and since there is no other way to go up, we just have to wait on them, hmmm :(. As I remember, one of the runner, shout and says “ pwede ba, wag muna kayong mag picturan”, hmmm, maybe she have a PR to beat. Anyway, I just run and walk on my way. As we already at the peak, I saw all the leading runners going back, shouting “ hindi daw dun ang 5K, 15K daw un” oh wow, all the 5K runners are lost? Hmmm, some runs and look for the right trail, some took pictures, some are angry and me, oh well I just take a rest and accept that this is really an Adventure Run, as what they say hehehe. After 20 minutes of waiting, Madz call me to follow her as Peds already knew the right trail, so I ran on them. We were on the right trail already, as we saw signage for 5Km and a red ribbon. We passed on the forest with lots of dried leaves and dry land (it’s because of El Nino) . Though I’m already gasping my breath going uphill, I still enjoy the scenery as I love nature. It’s a little bit sad as I saw the bare mountain, haiz. As we go down now, lots of big rocks and steep as we had to handle on the rope going down, as I was saying that time, “careful, wrong move or else”. As we get our lace, I thought we already near, though I’m not hoping for the medal, I just wanted to finish it since its already 1 hour and 30 mins. And all the marshal keep saying, “malapit na”. We I saw the road, I run, as I remember Kowts Abby saying “ it’s good to have a strong finish” so I did run but on my dismay I saw the signage we are still 1km away from the finish line and the marshal waiving their have pointing the right trail, oh my oh my. We conquered again, lots of big rocks, river crossing and the hanging bridge in the Wawa Dam, “perfect place”. I love rocks and river :). I must say, that’s the best part of the trail, the last 1 km. I crossed the finished line, wet, dirty and with smile in my face. :)

(nice meeting them all)

(runners going up in single file)

(going UP and UP)

(5K runners are lost in the Mountain)

(that's me,with the rocks the gives me bruises, hehe)

(thanks guys, without all of you I will not survived the 5K run :) )

Thanks to Madz for the picture and ride. Also to Pedz, and madz’ cousins Mina and Irish, thanks for the company. Thanks to Agatep. Nice meeting to James, Miss Vicky and Miss Noelle (though I’m kinda shy to talked to them, but I knew them through their blogs, hehe) I also saw some takbo.ph people, coach Wilnar and others.
Thanks to the organizer for this event. Thanks God as I conquered this adventure trail run, injury free. ^-^

Ortigas Group Adination Rules! ^-^

Every Wednesday at 7PM in Mc DO Pearl Drive, adidas provide free running training with the help of lovable Kowts Luis and charming Kowts Abby plus plus the other ultramarathoner from Takbo.ph (o d ba bigatin). I attended their second session last March 31 (I did not attended the first session, super shy ako na sumali, buti na lang kasama pala si Madz-minnie, ayun Sali na ko, sadly wala siya knina), and I’m not in the condition that time I just Finished 3 loops (1.2K each) while the others did 4 loops, and I’m also the slowest of the group, haiz, frustrating.

And today April 7, the 3rd session of Ortigas Adination, went to Mc DO with Anpaul . This time I conditioned myself, with focus and determination that I have and the banana cue that I eat I can do what the training will do. At first, we just have stretching and group run for 1.2K loop and of course the unlimited picture taking with Kowts Luis. I’m happy with the first loop as I finish it with continuous run and jog, hmmm good start for me, hehe. Then the 2nd loop will check our time, hmmm pressured again, but I told to myself, I can do it, nakakahiya kaya, hehe. First was Anpaul and Ces, then next was Drew and Lee ,wow Drew finish it with 3.++ (can remember the exact time, but he is the fastest of the group, hehe). Then Jp , Al and Arlene, and our group Doc Rellie, Jeng and Me. Coach Mar, and Coach Junnar accompany the run (shocks hindi sila napapagod kahit paulit ulit, indeed an Ultramarathoner, hehe). Kowts Luis also run many times the loop and do the sweeping. While running, I had side stitches and the pain stops me for running, so I have to walk (aw frustrating talaga). As expected I’m the slowest of the group with 8.33min/1.2K (not sure with the time but something like that). Hmmm, it’s ok I need to practice more, hehe. As Kowts Luis telling our route, I always nod and say it’s ok since I’m not familiar with the place, as I work in QC and live in Bulacan (malay ko ba dun sa sinasabi nyang St. Martin, go lang ng go, hehehe). We started run as a group, Kowts Abby lead us , and so I was left behind, thanks to Doc Rellie sa pagsabay (hay naku, mawawala ako sa Ortigas, hehe). Then Kowts Luis came, he accompany us, give some pointers, techniques and his running story (as I’m familiar coz I’m reading his blog http://www.gingerbreadrunning.com/). We will stop at Tiendesitas, the first group was already resting while the three of us still running, hay it’s because of me, sadness talaga. We are done more than 5Km as Kowts Abby did the distance recording with her Garmin? (not sure), I can’t tell the exact street that we run as I’m not familiar and my first time to be in Ortigas, pasensya, hehe). Kowts Luis telling us again that we already run more than 5Km and so we will go to St. Martin and run the loop so we will finish 10Km (what! 5Km p ulit, ung ibang kasama ko fresh pa, ako wasted na,hehe) Of course, ako pa I always have the will power and determination, go run again, hehe. And this time Kowts Abby pace me, we are at the back and she’s telling me that we will run when she told so and walk when we should walk. As she told me that I should practice that command and so I follow her, I run when she told so and just walk when to do so, focus and don’t think on the pain, when she sees that I’m having a hard time she keeps on yelling me to push, push more, (that’s motivation really helps me, thanks Kowts Abby). And yes Kowts Abby do the talking while we are running, amazing girl (the real ultramarathoner, as I can’t breathe normally I can’t say anything (kahit I really want to shout, ayoko na, hehe), and so I just have to listen, I open my mind and my heart to absorb and feel what she was telling. When she told me to run going up (yes, going to St. Martin is uphill, kaya pala, now I know, hehe), I was about to give up and stop but she still insisting me and yelling, run, push, push more, the encouragement that she give, I did it. When we reach at the pole,I was about to collapsed, nahihilo na ako at namumutla (sabi nila, hehe), and yes I sit on the street, while the others are taking pictures, ako nakalupasay sa kalye, poor me, hehe. Thanks to Arlene for the Gatorade, naubos na kasi ung water ko, and also to Doc Rellie for the water, na inihilamos ko as my sweat already getting in in my eyes, ang hapdi kaya, hehe. When I recover, almost had a teary eyed, as I did not do that during the race, on a race I will walk when I want to, makulit ako e, if I feel the pain, kaya ko pa lang balewalain un kung kaya, hehe. And now we will go back to the starting point, as Kowts Abby still with me, I still follow her obediently, run when to do so and walk when to do so. I still feel the pain, side stitches, cramps but I need to focus on what I’m doing. Every stop that we did, the group always cheer me up (Jeng, Anpaul, Doc Rellie,Lee, Arlene, Ces, JP, Drew-hope I remember it all) and keep on asking me if I’m ok, thanks guys, you are all awesome. We already did more than 8Km, and we are 3Km away from the starting point. Kowts Abby still with me (thanks to her, hindi siya nagsawa and napagod) and do the run-walk. On a last km, I told her I will just walk baka kasi hindi n ako makauwi ng Bulacan, hehe. But she still encouraging me, and motivate me to run, and so I did. As we are done, I’m happy and fulfilled as we finish the 11.7Km,my longest distance and the most calories that I burn as I sweat a lot, as in. After taking pictures as part of the training, hehehe, we call it a night.

Thanks to Kowts Abby for the motivation and the training that she did to me, it helps me a lot, as I will train more and do the command religiously. Thanks to Kowts Luis for the support and everything. Thanks to Jeng, Anpaul, Doc Rellie,Lee, Arlene, Ces, JP,Drew,Al, Coach Junnar and Coach Pojie, Ortigas Adination rocks!

As I’m writing this while I’m my way to go home using my phone (naka draft lang), as in super active pa ako and the happiness still with and I want to share it. I will just narrate my story thru this , kasi pag ikuwento ko to sa mga friends and officemate ko, they will laugh at me and think I’m insane, am I?, hehehe. I arrived at home at 12:30am, fix myself and be ready to sleep as still have to work at 9am. I'll just post the picture if Kowts Luis already uploaded it, hehe.

Thanks God for the strength, courage and determination that within me. Thanks to the entire wonderful person that share the same passion with me. God bless all!

See you next Wednesday. ^-^
